Figure 8 Follow Through

A figure eight knot with the end of the rope traced back through the knot. This creates a closed loop, commonly attached to a harness in canyoneering or rock climbing.

Appropriate uses for rock climbing and canyoneering:

  • Tying the rope into a harness
  • Tying off anchor points.

 

Below are the steps to tie the figure 8 follow through for canyoneering:


-Make a loop

-Pass the tail around behind the loop

-Pass the tail through the front of the loop

– Pass the tail of the rope around an object so that the 8 and the end of rope are side by side

-Take the tail of the rope and follow the strand that parallels it going into the eight

-The finished knot should have five pairs of parallel strands with 8 inches of tail
